Set in Sweden. In 1996, Jonathan Sandberg and his friend David Bergman neglected their duty as leaders of a scout group, resulting in the death of a young girl. Debut novel

Monica Rehn is a lawyer, who graduated from the University of Stockholm. During her career she worked mainly in the oil industry, of which eleven years as a corporate lawyer. MORATORIUM is her debut novel.

A thriller about guilt, power and death, and about the cold and unpleasant darkness that hides beneath the surface.

During a scouting camp a girl is killed in a fire, while the youth leaders David Bergman and Jonathan Sandberg swim across the lake under the influence of vodka. Jonathan in particular never succeeds in working out his guilt. He isolates himself from the world and enters the darkness.

Ten years later, Jonathan Sandberg disappears without a trace and the life of David Bergman has taken a dramatic turn. His wife has left him and his job at the law firm where he would become a partner no longer exists. Moreover, money has been taken from him and he has a large debt, a debt that he is unable to pay off. When the father of his old childhood friend comes to visit him and offers him the unexpected assignment to go and find Jonathan - for a considerable sum of money - David cannot afford to say no.

Then a brutal murder takes place and David is forced to dig deeper and deeper into the dark, turbulent past of the Sandberg family. He can’t decide whether it is Jonathan’s ties to the drug world that got him in trouble or what happened that summer with the scout group, but if it’s the latter, David realises that he himself may be in danger.
