Pitch

The author remembers Aude, a woman with whom he had a relationship and who became one of his best friends. She just died. He moves into her apartment. Months go by and he keeps investigating on their past of children still bearing the wounds of WWII and Nazism.

Comments

It is a long autobiographical novel/memoir revolving around the life and death of a woman. A sort of post-mortem monument made of scattered memories and tentative reconstructions of what she shared with the author. WWII is the black well which swallows their love but also the source of most moral and psychological meditation in the novel.

Morgan Sportes is the successful French writer of more than 20 books. He was awarded several French prestigious prizes such as the Prix Renaudot des Lycéens (2006) and the Prix Interallié (2011).

One of his novels, L'APPÂT (1995) was made into a movie (Golden Bear Award at the 45th Berlin International Film Festival) by famous French filmmaker, Bertrand Tavernier.

Summary

The author remembers Aude, a woman with whom he had a relationship and who became one of his best friends. She just died. He moves into her apartment. Months go by and he keeps investigating on their past of children still bearing the wounds of WWII and Nazism.
