A fairy tale for grown-ups set in 1943. When their friend Riccardo disappears, 10-year-old Italo, Cosimo and Vanda decide to run after him to help him escape from the mysterious train they have heard of, in which the Germans lock Jewish people to send them to camps somewhere.

Summary

When their friend Riccardo disappears, 10-year-old Italo, Cosimo and Vanda decide to run after him to help him escape from the mysterious train they have heard of, in which the Germans lock Jewish people to send them to camps somewhere East. Sister Agnese, the nun taking care of orphan Vanda, and Italo’s fascist brother get on their track. The children will walk 200 hundreds kilometres struggling with hunger and cold and hiding from Nazi troops before being found. Of the 281 children sent to Auschwitz after the raid of the ghetto (October 1943), none will come back.
