A silent widowed father and his son spend their life on their sailing boat in Northern France, sailing and then working as smugglers, carrying clandestine migrants from Europe to Great Britain. One day a family embarks on their boat, along with a mysterious man, who asks them to take him to Ireland. But this stranger turns menacing and, doubting the captain’s intentions, he gets mad at him and the other passengers and attacks them, causing a shipwreck...
