Pitch

After yet another global crisis, the EU has collapsed. In the resulting chaos, the English National Party has swept to power and dissolved the United Kingdom. Any Celt caught with a tattoo, is executed.

A Telegraph YA Book of the Year

Claire McFall's books has garnered a lot of interest since her studio deal with Legendary for her novel FERRYMAN. This one is eerily relevant in today's political climate even though it was written a few years before Brexit.

Claire McFall is a YA writer and English teacher who lives and works in the Scottish Borders. Her debut FERRYMAN was the 2013 Scottish Children’s Book Award winner for the 12-16 category, was long-listed for the Branford Boase Award and the UKLA (UK Literary Association) Book Awards, as well as being nominated for the Carnegie Medal. FERRYMAN has been optioned at a top tier level for a movie franchise by Legendary Entertainment, the Hollywood studio behind Inception, The Dark Knight, Godzilla and Jurassic World.

Summary

Set in a close future. UK is in economic crisis, and England has closed the borders to their Celtic neighbours in Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Any Celt found in England is tattooed with a Celtic knot and deported – if they return to England, they are executed. Despite this danger, Lizzie, a teenager from Glasgow, returns to England after being branded in the hope of finding work, but is instead forced into virtual slavery for Alexander, a London gang boss and terrorist.
