Pitch

A famous author devoted exclusively to writing gothic novels decides to leave them forever. Frustrated and bitter for having allowed his literary aspirations to be buried under the demands of the publishing world, he decides to radically turn his life over to opium.

Comments

"The new novel by Argentine literary genius is once again an unusual invitation to partake in an extraordinary game by Cesar Aira, to travel through his always unpredictable kaleidoscopic mind, from the earthliest reality to the most disconcerting metaphysics."

César Aira (born on February 23, 1949 in Coronel Pringles, Buenos Aires Province) is an Argentine writer and translator, considered by many as one of the leading exponents of Argentine contemporary literature, in spite of his limited public recognition.
He has published over fifty books of stories, novels and essays.

Summary

A famous author devoted exclusively to writing gothic novels decides to leave them forever. Frustrated and bitter for having allowed his literary aspirations to be buried under the demands of the publishing world, he decides to radically turn his life over to opium. To achieve this, he must cross Buenos Aires on a bus, sitting next to a stranger named Alicia, into an underground world known as Antiquity, where the dealer can provide the long-awaited tool that helps him cross over to a new reality.

Cesar Aira’s new novel represents the idiosyncrasy of his impressive work. This masterful book, where even the title encompasses a mystery, is full of humor, ingenuity, and an ironic look at the world. Prins is an amazing, crazy, and delirious trip, full of underground labyrinths and secret doors.
