Summary

I AM F*CKING HOT! is a book about going through the menopausal change, but also a defense for vulnerability – it is not only a book about the biological changes, but more so a book about what women go through emotionally when their body changes, when their body loses ability to give life, when youth is a thing from the past and the looks have gone south. The book combines a personal narrative with psychology and biology and a lot of humor.

“When I turned 13, I prayed to God that he would give me a pair of breasts and my period. My biggest wish – all that occupied my mind – was to become a woman and as quickly as possible. Luckily, God listened and the hormone party started. (…) At something-fifty you cross a line now entering the second part of life: The world around you is changing quickly. Death comes closer, the decay of the body is leaving its marks – the age of infirmity begins. Children leave home, divorces, parents dies. Defining events that trigger the emotional roller coaster, these events and the emotions that follow are the focus of my book.”

Renée Toft Simonsen writes about the emotional roller coaster which belongs to those years where the production of hormones drops, the nights become extremely warm and uneasy and feel equally intense, emotional and overwhelming as those that turned life upside down as a teen.
