Summary

A biography of Giovanni Battista Belzoni (1778-1823), an Italian explorer and pioneering archeologist of Egyptian antiquities. He was the first to penetrate into the second pyramid of Giza and the first to clear the entrance of the great temple in Abu Simbel. Belzoni's life is thrilling. He fled to England from Rome to avoid jail, joined a traveling circus as a strongman (he was 2 meters tall) and landed in Egypt at the beginning of the 19th century. He shipped several prominent ancient pieces to England. He died in Benin.
