Summary

Paris, 1301. The King of France and his trusted man are looking for something in the Notre-Dame basements. Philip the Fair is ready to do anything in order to avoid a fatal event, even to call back Arnaldus de Villa Nova, also known as the Catalan. The Catalan, Pope Boniface VIII’s genial and controversial physician, hides in Vatican, after being accused of witchcraft by Philip the Fair himself. The Pope wonders whether the king called back the Catalan, suspecting that there could be conspiracy against him. In order to discover it, he entrusts the case to his nephew, Crescenzio Caetani, a young medical student, and to Dante Alighieri, delegate of the Republic of Florence. The secret could be hidden in the Vatican Apostolic Library.
